If you want beautiful, luscious hair, then the hair care industry will tell you that you should using a number of hair care products such as high-end shampoo and conditioner, something to protect your hair from heat, dyes to achieve the perfect color of hair, and many other products to assist in the styling process.

Many people, especially women, fall into the trap of believing that these products are necessary in order to have beautiful hair. But, the problem is that many of these products actually contain dangerous, harmful ingredients that can be damaging to your hair and toxic to your health. If you have the desire to obtain healthy hair, then you need to be more selective about the natural hair products that you choose to use.

Shampoo is designed to clean your hair, but many times these "cleaning" ingredients are actually stripping your hair and causing damage. Yes, there are certain ingredients that might help to boost foam and dissolve oil and dirt in your hair... and some of those ingredients are also found in paint stripper. Do you really want to be using the same ingredients in your hair that are used to strip paint off the wall?

Watch out for shampoo products that contain sulphates, such as sodium laureth sulphate and sodium lauryl sulphate, especially if you have colored your hair. These products are commonly found in "color protectant" shampoos and anti-dandruff products.

Alcohol Based Ingredients Can Cause Dryness

Often, alcohol based ingredients are added because they can help to bust through scalp oil and remove buildup. In the short-term, these types of ingredients might help your hair to look fantastic. But, in the long term they can be very harmful to the health of your hair. When alcohol ingredients are used on an ongoing basis, they can strip out the natural moisture and oils in your hair, causing it to be brittle and dry.

Eventually, alcohol products will break down the proteins that are needed to maintain healthy hair, and your hair will start to look dull, brittle, and not healthy. Additionally, these ingredients can have a negative effect on the quality of your skin and your overall health.

            Better Hair Health

If you want to improve the health of your hair, then you need to find a product that only uses natural ingredients. The shopping process can be difficult, because you need to ignore marketing messages and focus on the ingredients instead. Don't be fooled by terms such as "all natural," because the marketing messages can be very misleading and don't give you a true insight to the ingredients that are used. So how do you know if a product is all natural you many want to know; the ingredient list. The proof of how natural a product is can be found there.

Instead, you should look for products that are free of sulphates and alcohol based ingredients. Try finding one at your local health food store or natural beauty care company such as Wisely Made for all- natural hair products or make your own natural shampoo recipe, which is beneficial because then you will have the peace of mind to know the ingredients that are being used on your hair. The key is to read the ingredients. The proof of how natural a product is can be found in the ingredients list. Vitamins for Healthy Hair, Skin and Nails

Your body requires certain levels of vitamins and minerals in order to remain healthy, and this is also true about your hair, skin and nails.  If you are vitamin deficient, this will show in ways such as flaky finger nails, your skin may be dry or have a greyish tinge, or your hair could be brittle.  These are all signs that your body is not getting what it needs in order to function correctly.  The following guide will help you to get your hair, skin and nails, as well as your body, in a great condition.

            Know Your Vitamins

Vitamin A is essential for cell growth and replenishment. In addition vitamin A slows down the aging process. If you are deficient in Vitamin A, you may notice symptoms such as your hair being very dry and your skin may itch or feel irritated. You can find Vitamin A naturally in food sources such as carrots, spinach, oranges, yellow fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin B is complicated as there are a few types of these, but vitamin B6 and B12 are the most important.  Vitamin B can be found in a number of foods including green peas, salmon, chicken breast, avocado, liver and rice. If you have a problem with your hair falling out, you could change your diet to incorporate more Vitamin B rich foods to see if that solves the problem.

Vitamin C is probably the most well-known of the vitamin family but you possibly associate it more with boosting your immune system than helping improve the health of your hair, skin and nails.  Vitamin C supports skin elasticity and helps collagen growth so eating a vitamin C rich diet can help smooth skin and reduce sagging as well as providing antioxidants. Vitamin C can be found in foods like citrus types, red peppers, kiwi and spinach.

Vitamin D is a vitamin that can affect the appearance of your nails.  If you have what appear to be ridges on your fingernails, this could be a sign of a vitamin D deficiency.  Fatty fish, dairy produce and fortified breakfast cereals can help increase your vitamin D level.  Another good natural source of vitamin D are UV rays from the sun.

Vitamin E is great for your skin and nails.  It can improve your skin’s natural texture and give it a more youthful appearance, while its moisturizing properties can also cure dry and flaking nails.  You will find vitamin E in grains such as sunflower seeds, tofu, spinach, and nuts.

If you don’t follow a good diet, then consider taking some vitamin supplements each day to ensure that you get the right amount needed to keep your body in good shape.  As with your grocery shopping, and beauty product purchases, check the labels on the vitamin bottles to make sure how much of each vitamin supplement you are taking.  Healthy nails and hair should shine and healthy skin glow, and by making the right nutritional choices these are achievable goals.

Why Toxic Skincare Products Can Be Damaging to Your Health

When it comes to the topic of health, most people are focused on the things that they eat... but did you know that the biggest gateway for toxins to enter your body is through your skin? Yes, it is important to eat a healthy diet and stay away from toxic ingredients, and it is just as important to be selective about the types of beauty products that you are putting on your skin.

            Caring for Your Skin

The skin is the largest organ in the body, which means that you need to be careful to protect it. Conventional beauty and bath products are filled with harmful ingredients, and when those items come in contact with your skin, the chemicals are absorbed into your body.

When you apply a bath or beauty product to your skin, it is estimated that 60% of that product is absorbed. That means your body is taking in a large amount of those harmful ingredients, which can have negative effects on your health.

Dangerous Ingredients Can Damage Your Health

It can be difficult to find quality beauty products, especially because the conventional products are so convenient and popular. Many people make the mistake of listening to the marketing messages instead of reading the label, resulting in the use of a low-quality product and a false belief that you have made a good purchasing decision.

In the personal care industry, there are over 10,000 ingredients which have been approved to be used in personal care products, and a large majority of those are hazardous and very dangerous to your health. These ingredients are so common, that it is estimated that women put nearly 515 chemicals on their body each day. The chemicals are in everything: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, facial wash, moisturizers, makeup, lotion, skin creams, perfume, toothpaste, hair styling products, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, and many more.

How To Find High Quality Beauty Products

When you are shopping for natural beauty products, the most important rule to follow is to make sure that you understand the ingredients that are in the bottle. Take a look at the ingredient list, and understand the types of ingredients that should be avoided.

For the best results, the products should contain natural ingredients that you are familiar with. As a general rule of thumb: if you can't pronounce the ingredient, then it is likely a harmful chemical that you shouldn't be putting on your body. Select products that are free of mineral oils, artificial colors, artificial fragrances, synthetic preservatives, and other harmful toxins.

Instead, purchase real natural skin care products that contain organic, pure ingredients such as organic shea butter, jojoba seed, organic natural fragrances, pure ingredients, and natural pigments. These types of products can be easily purchased at your local health food store, or you can also find them online.

When you are purchasing natural, organic personal care products, you will be getting high quality ingredients and the peace of mind to know that you are supporting your health through the products that you are using.

Improve Your Skin with a DIY Facial Mask Recipe

Ohh FacialsAre you looking for a natural way to improve, nourish, soften, and rejuvenate your skin at home? Many people turn to commercial products, without realizing that these products contain toxic ingredients that can actually harm your skin. Instead of reaching for the commercial product, consider buying real natural skin care products or making your own DIY facial mask that is cheaper and more effective.

How Facial Masks Improve Your Skin

When you are applying natural beauty products on your skin, the facial mask can be beneficial to remove dead skin cells and provide deep hydration for all layers of skin. People often experience poor skin quality because their skin is dry, oily, or it is clogged because of bacteria and impurities that cause infections near the surface of the skin.

Another benefit to homemade facial masks is the fact that they can help to improve skin circulation, which encourages good skin tone and a fresh appearance. These natural ingredients can be an effective way to heal sun damaged skin, and get rid of acne and blemishes.

How to Apply a DIY Facial Mask

There are several steps that should be followed when you are using a DIY facial mask:

            1. Start out by mixing together the facial mask, so that it is ready to be used after you have cleansed your skin
            2. Use a high quality facial cleanser to cleanse your skin, then rinse well.
            3. Pat the skin dry
            4. Gently spread the mask on your face, avoiding the eyes, nose, and mouth
            5. Allow the mask to sit for 15 - 20 minutes, then wash it off in warm water
            6. Make sure the mask ingredients are completely cleansed from your face, and then finish with a high quality facial moisturizer such as virgin coconut oil

Some people like to use masks frequently in order to prevent skin problems, and other people use these masks occasionally when they feel as though their skin needs an extra boost. For best results, it is a good idea to use a mask at least once or twice a week. Try different recipes, to find the one that you like best.

Depending on your skin type, there are several natural skin care recipes that you may choose from. Here are a few options to consider:

            Hydrating Mask
            • 1/4 of an avocado, mashed
            • 1 egg yolk
            • 2 tablespoons Raw apple cider vinegar

Mix together the egg yolk and avocado, and then add a small amount of vinegar until the correct consistency is achieved. The constancy should be smooth and thick, similar to a toothpaste texture.

            Age Reversing Mask

            • 1 teaspoon raw honey
            • 2 tablespoons of coconut milk
            • 1 egg yolk

Stir everything together well, and apply to the skin.

            Deep Moisturizing Mask

            • 1 tablespoon honey
            • 1 tablespoon cooked oatmeal, cooled
            • 2 tablespoons yogurt, plain

Mix the ingredients together, and then let them sit for 10 minutes. During this waiting period, the oatmeal will soften so that a smooth paste can be formed. Stir the mixture well before applying it to your face.

            Natural Hair Care Habits

There’s no doubt that natural hair is beautiful, but it can be a scary process to start. If you have had a weave, extensions, or manipulated your hair with chemicals for a long time, you probably have little idea about how your natural hair felt, how it moved, and more importantly, how to take care of it. Once you’ve made up your mind however, you’ll find that as long as you understand what your hair needs and take the right steps to create habits that provides this, you’ll be delighted with the results.

The most important thing that you need to understand is that your natural hair requires moisture. It dries out quickly and although most of the products you see advertised may give your hair a quick fix, most of the styling products contain chemicals that will strip the hair of its essential oils, making your hair more brittle and prone to split ends and fizziness.

One of the most common misconceptions is that hair needs to be shampooed every day. This isn’t only untrue, it’s actually harmful to hair especially if you are using a chemical based shampoo. While washing your hair every day can help replenish moisture, ordinary shampoos strip moisture out, which creates more damage. Wash your hair with water daily, but restrict the shampoo to once or twice a week. For better results, you should use products with natural ingredients so read the labels carefully before you buy your next shampoo and conditioner.

When choosing a moisturizer, pick a product that is water based. Even if a moisturizer claims to be natural, check the label. Just because the packaging claims that the product contains olive oil, or aloe vera, it doesn’t necessarily mean that all of the other ingredients are natural. Make sure that you choose a product that is chemical free. Remember, chemicals will strip moisture from your hair, and the point of using the moisturizer is to replenish moisture.

Another product you could use is a leave-in conditioner or. As this is a product you won’t be rinsing out, it’s even more vital to ensure that you choose a product that has completely natural ingredients. Buying a natural ingredient based leave-in styler will help to nourish your hair as well as make it more manageable. We have a product which reflects this called the Aloe & Green Tea Leave-In Hair Spray.

If you find that your hair is brittle, you need to replenish the hair moisture by using a deep conditioning treatment. You could even make one of these yourself using natural ingredients such as honey or olive oil. Apply a small amount of this to your hair, put on a shower cap and then leave it for about 15 minutes before rinsing. Avoid heat styling tools such as curling irons, and don’t over brush your hair, while it is under-moisturized as these can make the situation worse.

Going natural is initially going to require a little more work, but once you get the hang of how to take care of your hair properly, you’ll love it reap the benefits!

            Olive Oil Hair Products

Are you a someone who has gone natural or desires to use natural products? If so take a moment to congratulate yourself. It is often times a decision that women go back and forth with for some time before they actually take the plunge.

There are many changes that you will experience as you make your way to the all-natural look, and some of the biggest decisions come with choosing the styling products that you will use on your hair.

So many of the products on the market are claim to help hair, yet they contain other ingredients that cause breakage, split ends, dry scalp and other symptoms. Make it part of your conversion to going natural to use only natural products to treat and clean your hair.

True natural hair care products should not contain any toxic or harmful ingredients that will cause damage to the hair. And, the effects work just as well, if not better than chemical-based products.

            Olive oil for hair

Olive oil is a carrier oil that is found inside many of the natural product ranges. It has a number of wonderful benefits to the hair:

            • Stimulates the scalp leaving it feeling soft and smooth

            • Nourishes hair from root to tip, allowing hair to grow strong and keep from breaking.

            • Protects the hair by coating it with fatty acids that act as a barrier against hair dryers and heat styling tools.

Other benefits of using olive oil include dandruff control. Dandruff is caused by the scalp not getting enough moisture. Olive oil acts as a moisturizer that ensures the scalp doesn’t dry out and being to flake. Conditioning with an olive oil treatment once per month will greatly reduce the possibility of dandruff.

To make an olive oil treatment, put about half a cup of olive oil in a dish and warm it (either over a pan of hot water, or in the microwave (be careful not to overheat it if using the microwave – half a minute should be enough). Brush your hair, and then use the tips of your fingers to massage the oil into your scalp. Do this a little at a time and take care to cover the entire scalp. Massage it in carefully making sure you don’t miss any. Remember this is more about the scalp than the hair so you need to make sure if your hair is thick, that your fingertips do feel the olive oil going onto the skin. Next you can take a brush or comb and having dipped it into the remaining oil, brush the rest of your hair. Wrap a towel around your head and wait for about half an hour before washing your hair to remove any excess olive oil. You will just need to shampoo the hair as the olive oil will have already provided a deep conditioning treatment.

These are a few of many exciting benefits that come with natural care when olive oil products are introduced to your hair regiment. There are many products on the market that contain olive oil, so make sure that you are reading those labels to find the right ones.
